(Answer) (Category) PRW.NET FAQ's : (Category) V.92 :
What is required for "modem-on-hold" ?
Modem-on-hold requires the "call waiting" option on your phone line. This is provided by your phone company. If your phone line does not have "call waiting" enabled you will not be able to receive or originate calls while connected to the Internet with a V.92 modem.

Modem-on-Hold allows you to suspend your Internet session to receive incoming calls. When you finish the call, your Internet session will be resumed. With most V.92 modem-on-hold utilities you can also originate calls while connected to the Internet and then resume your session when you are finished with the call.

We currently do not implement a timeout for the modem-on-hold feature but you should note that there will be no data transmission while you are on the phone. Some downloads or other data intensive processes may terminate if your call is too long.

Note that the modem-on-hold functionality at the server is the same for all modems but the functionality and ease of use of the modem-on-hold sofwtare included with the modem varies significantly among manufacturers. We suggest that you verify that the sofwtare included with your modem meets your expectations.
